Traditionally Armenian history began in 2492 B.C., when the ancestor of Armenians Hayk Nahapet won the king Bel of Assyria in the Armenian valley and achieves independence. The kingdom of Greater Armenia was the first to accept Christianity as the state religion in the 4th century A.D.,( 301 year).

Today modern Republic of Armenia recognizes the world's ancient Armenian Apostolic Church as the main religious institution of the country. National and official language of Armenia is Armenian, with its own alphabet created by Mesrop Mashtots in the 405 A.C.
